Okay…okay!!! So it has been a little while since we posted on Kolby’s blog. But don’t they say that; “no news” is usually considered to be “good news”? Well besides the usual side effects with the chemotherapy…the good news is…that lately Kolby has been doing pretty well. The worst side effect now is from the shot of “Neulasta” that she gets the week following her chemotherapy injections, because it causes some deep bone pain. It is prescribed to reduce the risk of infection in cancer patients who are receiving strong chemotherapy (which unfortunately decreases the number of infection-fighting white blood cells). When she has her “Neulasta” shot, she ends up missing a few days of school here and there, but for the most part she has felt amazingly good. On this past Thursday, she underwent her next chemotherapy treatment and a new 21 day cycle filled with pills, shots, blood work, and doctor’s appointments. (YAAAY!!)
If you happened to notice the big smile on her face in the picture above…it is because she can now start to see some real light at the end of her year-long cancer tunnel. This is the start of her fourth to last 21-day chemotherapy cycle and she is getting anxious for it all to end. After this cycle she will have only 3 remaining 21-day chemotherpy cycles to complete. This past year has been one really long bad dream. It is time for it to be all over. I have to admit that she has been incredibly amazing through all of this, hardly ever complaining. She has endured and dealt with issues and complications that are crippling to most adults. And like this picture she wears a smile pretty much most of the time.
Her oncologist, Dr. Rashid...(We just love her!) ...has done an amazing job of staying ahead of this disease and has really been instrumental in bringing Kolby back from the brink. We are also thankful for everyone’s constant concern and caring words. It has really given our whole family the strength we needed in so many ways to make it through this difficult trial.
Now…our constant prayer is that we have beaten this cancer into permanent remission. Here…is to hoping that Kolby’s “Neu” cancer-free life is going to “last-a” long…long time!!!
(sorry Kolbsters…I couldn’t help myself!!! :0)
